idma best break through dj deadmau5

2009 International Dance Music Awards
IDMA Best Breakthrough DJ – Deadmau5

As we had predicted, Deadmau5 wins the IDMA’s Best Breakthrough DJ award! This has been a long time coming as Deadmau5 has been the talk of the electronic music town especially in the progressive and trance side but even the house side with his joint productions such as that including Kaskade! This guy has been on fire and has boasted a very strong presence at the Winter Music Conference for 2009.

Other nominees Deadmau5 won over in the Best Break-through category included: Kyau & Albert, DJ Shah, Laidback Luke, Aly & Fila

Here are a few video clips of Deadmau5 at Ultra Music Festival 2009:

international dance music awards best global club

2009 International Dance Music Awards
IDMA Best Global Club Nominees

CocoonClub, Frankfurt
Guvernment, Toronto
Space, Ibiza
Ministry of Sound, London
Amnesia, Ibiza

Featured Nominee:
Pacha, Ibiza

It’s no mistake that half of the six nominated clubs are located on the beautiful island of Ibiza. A good club is a good club, but a great club is its own franchise, as Pacha and Ministry of Sound will attest to. As one of the original Ibizan superclubs, Pacha Ibiza today is a paradise for clubbers – and pretty much anyone else who is looking for an eye-opening experience. You know what this means? A visit to the White Isles in your near-future itinerary, of course.

IDMA Best Artist Group Nominees

Daft Punk

Pendulum
Soulwax

Featured Nominee:
Justice

Everyone wants a piece of them – they’ve got fans like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the New Year’s Eve crowd at Chicago’s Congress Theater, Dior Homme’s Summer Fashion Show execs, and of course their own rabid supporters. Justice’s success is very much reminiscent of the other French house act on this list, Daft Punk, but whether or not they will be able to outdo them in the future is another question.

Featured Nominee:
Madonna

Does someone want to count how many records and awards the nominees in this list hold? Probably not. Madonna and Tiesto alone would take you a while. Queen Madge may have hit the big 5-0, but she’s still got it. Another number one album this year (Hard Candy), and another historic world tour (The Sticky & Sweet Tour). She has made US$280 million from five months of touring so far – Madonna’s going to be on the road until August 2009. A conservative estimate would put her up around $500 million (and that’s very conservative) after this one-year tour. Keeping up-to-date with music styles with help from artists like Justin Timberlake probably helps; wonder what Madonna will be doing in another ten years when she’s sixty?

IDMA Best Break-Through Artist Nominees

Santogold
Lady Gaga
Morgan Page

Featured Nominee:
Yelle

She broke out with songs like “À cause des Garçons,” and “Je veux te voir,” which have been featured in games (Need for Speed, UEFA Euro 2008), fashion shows (Moschino), TV (Entourage), and stores (Gap, H&M). And while Yelle is not one to shy from controversy – dissing fellow French act TTC’s Cuizinier – this has probably just helped her rise to stardom and notoriety. Oh yeah, her music’s not bad neither. Even if you don’t speak French.

Pjanoo – Eric Prydz – Pryda/Ultra Records
In And Out Of Love – Armin van Buuren feat. Sharon den Adel – Armada/Ultra Records

Featured Nominee:
The One – Sharam feat. Daniel Bedingfield – Ultra Records

Iranian-born Sharam (you might know him along with his partner “Dubfire” as Deep Dish) tries something new and teams up with Daniel Bedingfield, who has come out of hiding to help him out on The One. The video’s concept is distinctive enough, mixing technology (holograms) with quirky boy-girl scenarios – definitely worth a look.
