Markus Schulz - Trance DJ
Representing: Berlin, Germany
Style: Progressive trance
Best Known For: Spending more time in the air than on the ground.

Markus Schulz comes from an important area of trance’s origins: Germany. Originally a native of Berlin, Markus now makes his home in Miami, and brings his self-described “dark, moody, and melodic trance” in-person to his fans literally all around the world.

This trance DJ loves connecting with his fans on tour. And it’s major touring. Just plainly, Markus Schulz has been everywhere: Western Europe; eastern Europe; all of remaining Europe; all over North America; and he’s just getting started with Asia and South America in 2008. No stranger to some of the biggest festivals in the world, Markus has played to huge crowds at Creamfields (part of the Ibizan Cream brand), Sensation (massive indoor dance event), Planetlove, and Sunrise. He loves the studio and the crowd equally – for Markus Schulz, it’s just a cycle of inspiration fueling both his musical ideas and live acts.

Markus has released two artist albums so far – and you won’t have a problem differentiating between them. The debut album, “Without You Near,” was recorded in the winter, while the sophomore disc, “Progression,” was done in the summer. The Miami heat and atmosphere is without question evident in this album. He has also done mix compilations for Armada (Armin van Buuren’s label, to which he is signed), which have been released to much praise. Speaking of record labels, Markus has his own: Coldharbour, which is under the Armada trance umbrella.

If you’re a fan of Ibiza (who isn’t?), Markus Schulz is the DJ for you. Having just finished off his summer residency at Amnesia in Ibiza, Markus’s mission is to spread the Spanish goodness to the rest of the world. His weekly radio show, Global DJ Broadcast, has a special show just for Ibiza’s fans. It’s called Ibiza Summer Sessions, it’s in its third year, and its sole purpose is “to bring Ibiza to those who couldn’t be there and add to the experience of those who were.” Can’t make it to the Balearic Isles? Just tune into Global DJ Broadcast.

Finally, why does Markus Schulz do what he does? “It’s something that gets you through hard times, is a soundtrack to good times, and touches you in a unique way.” Does he have you convinced?
