Miss Kittin: PURRfection
Caroline Hervé, widely known as Miss Kittin, is a gifted French-born DJ with a budding resume for cranking out clever, yet affable dance tracks.  In the face of gaining popularity as a DJ in the ‘90s, Miss Kittin escalated her career as a songstress through collaboration records with Golden Boy and Felix Da Housecat, as well as a full-length album with the Hacker.  In addition to releasing numerous mix albums, Miss Kittin released her first truly solo album I Com  in 2004 and her second album Batbox in 2008.  The inventive beats on Batbox are crisp and all of the tracks are infused with individuality!  Some of my favorites include: Batbox, Grace, Metalhead, and Kittin is High.

With heavy, thumping beats accented by her sunken glam singing voice and freestanding patches of talk-rap, Miss Kittin has set the bar for glitzy electronic music.  I don’t think anything could quite replace my fave Miss Kittin tune – the electroclash anthem “Frank Sinatra”: “To be famous is so nice…In limousines we have sex/Every night with my famous friends.”  Her lyrical panache (at times comparable to free association) gives the inkling that she could make songs about anything or… about nothing at all. 

Whether performing live as an artist or as a DJ on the crowded international club and festival circuit, Miss Kittin is all about the music.  Enjoy her live performance last month at Lowlands in Holland above.  This is definitely one of her best sets!  On a side note, pay special attention to track #9, where she throws in Noise Floor Crew’s remix of Portishead’s Machine Gun.  Angel Alanis was more than happily pleased at the shout out, saying that:

“Her use of our remix of Portishead’s Machine Gun was a complete surprise.  Her vocals sound great on there and the entire mix itself is incredible.  I wish I was there!!!!!”
