Off the aptly named About Melodies Vol. I, Ukrainian DJ Nikolaz Nikz gives us Nightly City, one of only two Minimal tracks on the release. Although the other track (“Flunker”) is not bad, Nightly City has a rhythm that is uniquely complicated for a song labeled Minimal which works very well with its eerie and simplistic melody. Even when the beat takes a break and leaves you with a synth-solo, Nikolaz manages to make the music throb just enough to create the illusion of some solid beats being there. Can’t imagine it?
