Burning Man Festival
August 25th to September 1st, 2008 in Black Rock City, Nevada
Think Mad Max meets Alice in Wonderland. Think of an entrancing experience that has changed your life and then picture it in technicolor with captivating sound and bass. Words cannot express the madness and wonder that is Burning Man. But I can tell you this, it will definitely change your life. And your perspective.
The Burning Man Festival project has grown from a small group of people gathering spontaneously to a community of over 48,000 people. Some believe in recent years that the event has become “too commercialized,” but I beg to differ. You will never experience anything quite like it. Think themes, theme camps, art cars, humongous art installations, and people prancing about in glorious costumes - alternative beauty sprawled across the playa just begging you to come partake. It’s a party unlike any other.
This 400 square mile expanse known as the Black Rock Desert might just be as close as any of us can ever get to directly experiencing life on another planet. It is a journey - of the mind, body, and soul - in the deepest sense. It’s that crazy rollercoaster you jump on and beg not to get off of, despite the twists and turns.
No matter who you are - you belong here and you can participate. You breathe art, you exude music, and you’re here to survive. 100 degree plus weather is not for the faint of heart, so bring your face masks and fill your water bottle. It’s a battle, but one worth the fight. Everyone is a winner. The mind-altering experience of Burning Man is its own drug. Get addicted to it. It only lasts one week. (Though it may very well take at least that to recover!)
Create, participate, communicate, and celebrate. Be free and build your own world to play in. This is a land without rules. Just always remember to love each other, because in this life (and the next) it’s all you will ever need.
You’ll take the world you built with you. When you drive back down the dusty roads toward home, you slowly reintegrate to the world you came from. You feel in tune with the other dust-covered vehicles that shared the same community. Over time, vivid images still dance in your brain, floating back to you when the weather changes. The Burning Man community, whether your friends, your new acquaintances, or the Burning Man project, embraces you. At the end, though your journey to and from Burning Man are finished, you embark on a different journey — forever.”
Oh, and don’t forget to dance your ass off for me. I’ll be daydreaming that I was there!
