Grammy Awards Best Dance RecordingEven though the electronic music industry is as large as it reaching all corners of the globe with events such as the Love Parade drawing in millions of people - for some reason the Grammy Awards still refuse to air the winners of Best Dance Recording and Best Electronic/Dance Album.

This year the winner for Best Dance Recording (For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances. Vocal or Instrumental. Singles or tracks only.) was:

LoveStoned/I Think She Knows
Justin Timberlake
Nate (Danja) Hills, Timbaland & Justin Timberlake, producers; Jimmy Douglass & Timbaland, mixers
Track from: FutureSex/LoveSounds
[Jive/Zomba]

Others in the field were:

  • Do It Again
    The Chemical Brothers
Tom Rowlands & Ed Simons, producers
Track from: We Are The Night
    [Astralwerks]

  • D.A.N.C.E.
    Justice
Gaspard Auge & Xavier de Rosnay, producers; Gaspard Auge & Xavier de Rosnay, mixers
    Track from: †
    [Downtown/Vice/Ed Banger]

  • Love Today
    Mika
Jodi Marr, John Merchant, Mika & Greg Wells, producers; Greg Wells, mixer
Track from: Life In Cartoon Motion
    [Casablanca/Universal Republic Records]

  • Don’t Stop The Music
    Rihanna
    Stargate, producer; Phil Tan, mixer
Track from: Good Girl Gone Bad
    [Def Jam]

I don’t know about you, but in my opinion the most creative and ground breaking was Justice with D.A.N.C.E. They will probably be the most influential and have a long lasting effect on other dance recording artists. Even Rihanna was more influential in terms of the presence of this track on dancefloors and her level of unique choreography and dance (sure Justin is a great dancer, but his moves are outdated and have been done by many artists before).

Again, another surprise for us was the winner for Best Electronic/Dance Album (For vocal or instrumental albums. Albums only.):

We Are The Night
The Chemical Brothers
[Astralwerks]

I don’t know about you but did you even hear about new album by The Chemical Brothers? Don’t believe it made any charts or had much of a presence in the electronic community. On the other hand the competitors:

  • Justice

    [Downtown/Vice/Ed Banger]

  • Sound Of Silver
    LCD Soundsystem

    [Capitol Records/DFA]

  • We Are Pilots
    Shiny Toy Guns

    [Universal Motown]

  • Elements Of Life
    Tiësto

    [Ultra Records]

So there we have it…. talk about leaving a bad taste in your mouth. Who the heck chose these winners? Obviously they had no clue what was actually unique and innovative. Think differently?

I was going to go online to find out the results of those categories. I don’t like how electronic music is done as far as the Grammy’s. I keep envisioning myself breaking down that wall.
