Top DJs Aly and Fila

Aly & Fila
Representing: Cairo, Egypt
Style: Trance / Progressive
Best Known For: Being Egypt’s best kept secret (but not for long)

Aly & Fila is the next big thing out of Egypt. Aly Amr Fathalah and Fadi Wassef Naguib have been friends since childhood, and they’re helping to build the dance scene down in northern Africa, which right now is pretty much nonexistent. This will soon change though, as they have been the first to release material abroad to an overwhelmingly positive response. With influences of Steve Helstrip (from the Thrillseekers), Chicane, and Paul van Dyk in their music, Aly & Fila released their debut track, “Eye of Horus,” to rave reviews from both critics and clubbers. It received generous airplay from the biggest names in its genre (Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, Paul van Dyk), and became the darling of popular compilations soon after. Read the rest of this entry »

andy clockwork don\'t stop believing

Andy Clockwork - Don’t Stop Believing
“In today’s electro-dominated dance scene, sometimes a remix comes along that reminds us that house is a feeling. Andy Clockwork’s remix of Jouney’s “Don’t Stop Believing” is just such a tune. “I was grabbing a coffee early one morning before the gym”, says Andy, “and the original came on the radio. I’d heard it dozens of times before, but this time the vocal and the piano in the first few bars really hit me. The tempo was right, so I knew I could probably throw a descent little remix together.”

sasha

Sasha - Indestructible DJ
Representing: Bangor, Wales
Style: House
Best Known For: Being around for almost twenty years and still not slowing down.

Born Alexander Coe, Sasha is one of the world’s legendary house DJs. His experimentations with both technology (he’s an Ableton fan who uses software to his full advantage) and the different subgenres of house music span a long period of time, and a multitude of styles. Starting out with acid house in the late eighties, Sasha moved on to darker Euro-house, American house, pop house, “epic house,” progressive, deep house, and basically explored and more importantly, expanded on every inch of house music, until his current style, which he describes as a blend of trance, house, and breaks. above and beyond

Above and Beyond
Representing: London, the UK
Style: Trance (uplifting and vocal)
Best Known For: Getting love from all the big names like Armin, ATB, Oakenfold, PvD, and Tiësto

A trio consisting of Paavo Siljamäki, Tony McGuinness, and Jono Grant, Above and Beyond formed back in the early 2000s in London. They are an amazingly versatile group, with ventures reaching into every corner of electronic music. Their debut album was a blast; “Tri-State” managed to get a “Brilliant” (5/5) rating from DJMag along with a glowing review (which usually is not so generous to trance artists), and became one of iTunes’s Top Ten selling albums of 2006. This group is unique in that its members were all classically trained previously – you can bet that they are good with music, down to its heart. Read the rest of this entry »
