Just wanted to thank Cargo and all those at Plush for hosting one of the worst organized parties ever.

My friends and I new that this event would have a pretty big turn out so we bought advance tickets. We thought that $40 bucks for advance tickets was pretty steep, especially considering that we moved here recently from Toronto where we usually didnt pay more than $20 for a party...But...we figured if we wanted to see a good DJ in Vancouver, then we had no choice but to fork out the money.

Well it was the worst money ever spent because once we got there, my friends and I, along with a line of other tickets holders, all had to stand outside waiting for at least 2 hours to get in!!!

My boyfriend spent his birthday waiting in a stupid line that wouldnt move, while I watched all the friends of staff members walk right in...even after they claimed that it was past capacity.

By the time we got in, it was almost 2am!! We walked around and noticed that it wasnt even packed. So in an effort to blow off some steam, we immediately starting having some drinks. Then we danced for a bit and before we knew it the party was shut down, and we had only been there for an hour.

I've been partying for a long time and have been fortunate enough to party in different cities. I'm really into house music and this scene has always meant a lot to me. So my question is, who the heck shuts down a party at 3?!  ESPECIALLY if you paid that much and have went through that much just to get in.

Even Roger Sanchez made a comment at the end about Vancouver not being like Montreal or other cities where they let DJs play 14 hour sets.

Vancouver is a beautiful city and all but the party scene needs a lot of work!

What a disappointment

I feel for ya Ladywonder!  I hope you don't take that as what Vancouver has to offer.  I haven't been to many Cargo events but have had really good experiences as well as some problems with the security line up as well..unforunately the clubs sometime provide the security and it is their problem to resolve.  But anyway, considering Sanchez is such a mainstream dj I wouldn't expect it to be a much better experience.  Hopefully next time you're here you check out something a bit more low key and hve a betta time. but yeah, our clubs close at 3am unfortunately so you gotta try and get to the club before 11pm to make it worth it.  Hopefully some day that will change (there was a period of time they tested the 5am closing but I don't think we have the population to make it worth it).

Where to begin... I was one of those people that had to wait in line till just past 1am and I was lucky enough to be at the front. If you can call it lucky waiting for almost 2 hours. Being in that position I had a great view of the events that occurred. First of all in the ticket holder line there wasn't just a few of us there. From our count it was over 50+ people behind me ALL with tickets. It is true that in our line NOT one single ticket holder was allowed access between 11:45 and 1:15am. NOT ONE. MANY people can verify that including myself.
We were told numerous times from the bouncers that they were over capacity and that the cops were there threatening to shut the party down but we would be allowed in shortly after they leave. During this time my friends and I counted approx 25 people that either knew the bouncers, Plush's general manager or had little clothing on and pushed their chests in the bouncers faces to get in. (I guess if you have it use it right?) It wasn't until 1 am that a Cargo representative came out to apologize for the wait and announced ONLY ticket holders were going to get in from that moment on. In my opinion this should have been done from the beginning. If Cargo really wanted to avoid the problem that occurred they should have had someone out there from the beginning making sure that was the case.
I know from what I saw that it wasn't Cargo running the door when you had the GM from Plush instructing his bouncers and staff repeatedly that they were over capacity and not to left anyone in. There was even one instance that one of the bouncers did let in a couple of friends and he freaked out on him for doing so.
As for the cops they did not arrive till around 12:20 so that they can't use that excuse for the first half hour we were there. They did however come and go a few times after that.
To all the people that keep bringing up the time, stop and actually listen to yourself. The reason for advance tickets for any event whether it is for Dj’s, sporting events etc. is to guarantee your place in an event. PERIOD. To say it because those people were too late and don’t deserve to get in just shows lack of any common sense. Just because “It is that way for these events” doesn’t make it right. Some of those, like myself, bought tickets the day they went on sale to guarantee we had tickets to such an event.
In the end those people that waited that long to get in or not get in altogether deserve to get a refund period. Even when we did get in, our night was pretty much ruined even with such a great talent as Roger Sanchez. It’s always about the first impression. Personally it wasn’t about the money for me it was about how we were treated by such an unprofessional establishment and incompetent staff at PLUSH. If I were Cargo I would take a long hard look at continuing their relationship with Plush because this wasn’t the first time this has happened. This was just the worst. I have been to many of these parties where I have had friends in the line in the same situation. I hate to admit that the only reason I had got in those other times is because I did know someone at the door. If it meant that a ticket holder didn’t get in or had to wait then I do apologize. This was the first time I had been on the other side and I completely understand.
This isn’t the only venue that this has happened before but the difference is how it was handled. One case in particular was in the early spring when this happened at another venue except the promoters took action refunded or partly refunded the peoples money and also gave them tickets to a future event. That was going above and beyond.
The one good thing about being in this industry and being in that situation on Friday is the fact I come in contact and  my business reaches out to many people in this city and I for one will be making sure they ALL know about what happens at PLUSH and about the lovely people employed at PLUSH.

oh man, that's terrible to hear guys.  Sorry you had such a bad time.  Hopefully the promoters will notice this post and try and make a difference for their next show.

Wow this sounds like the worst clubbing night ever. I honestly am a little skeptical of the "big DJ big club" parties, although they can be good sometimes! I'm throwing a party called Mixology on the 15th, if you want to come, email me at heather@industryimages.com and I will put you on the list too. We gotta show you that Vancouver is a great place to party!
